Have you ever felt like going on a holiday with all your family and friends….? and getting MARRIED!! Well, this is one fun and relaxed style for a HOLIDAY WEDDING.
Meet Lisa & Ollie
A couple who booked me as their wedding celebrant, with a vision of what they wanted their wedding day to feel like! Notice I didn't Say - what they wanted their wedding day to Look like!
The important difference is this couple planned their wedding day with all the feels – starting with the holiday feels.
Sydney to Tumut, (4 hours’ drive) and that was the start of the HOLIDAY feeling.
They booked into Riverglade Caravan Park for fun and affordable accommodation for their guests and then they planned on walking 1km to have their ceremony by the Tumut River followed by a short walk over the road to the local brewery, Tumut River Brewing Co. for their reception.
Lisa & Ollie are two fun, adventure seeking, and eco-friendly individuals.
And they kept their wedding totally in-line with their values.
The eco-friendly way this couple planned their wedding was very clever:
Digital invitations & information using a FREE website called ‘www.withjoy.com’
They created their own website which was such a great way to inform their guests about EVERYTHING. I mean their guests were going on a holiday, so they had a bit of planning to do and Lisa & Ollie made it easy for them with:
lists of accommodation
places to eat
a map of the area
and things to do.
The coolest thing was the information about their wedding - location, & time, could all be updated and guests could get current information easily. (Which unfortunately needed updating!!)
Their website also shared gorgeous photos of the couple on many of their epic adventures!
They asked for no gifts and asked their guests to choose to carbon offset their travel emissions or donate any gift money to charity if they wanted to.
The one thing I won’t forget about this wedding, was that it rained and rained and rained but that didn’t dampen the fun or the love oozing from these two.
Plan B was a huge success and ‘Tumut River Brewing Co’ helped the couple out allowing us to have the ceremony there.
Drinks were poured
Live Music was played
Lisa’s entrance song was full of life & fun,
“Bright side of the Road by Van Morrison”
so she had an impromptu dance with her
dad as he walked her down the aisle.
The couple really are adventure loving and I’m not over-using the word epic at all.
I shared in the ceremony their story, how Ollie proposed to Lisa 4,200 m high in the Sierra Nevada on top of Mt Sill - to put it into perspective Mt Kosciuszko is only 2,228m above sea level and that is the tallest mountain in mainland Australia!!
Now that’s EPIC!!
The Ceremony included beautiful heartfelt words reflecting their love for nature and culture with Acknowledgement of Country spoken by a family friend - and a quote by John Muir (Americas most famous and influential naturalist).
The two of them shared personal vows that felt like they were talking directly to each other and still made us all laugh.
More FUN….
The “Ring bearer” was the winner of a golf competition with Ollie's mates the day before.
The wedding party chose their own outfits, so they could be worn again.
They had live music by "Jack Biilmann" @biilmann_band to entertain the guests.
With the ceremony over, the night’s celebrations began and my job was done. The time I had sharing the journey towards their wedding day, was sadly over with the couple but the memories will be forever.
Although Lisa & Ollie didn’t get to have their ceremony in nature where they feel connected to the environment and each other. At the end of the day, nature gifted them a RAINBOW, reminding them that things can be better than expected when you go with the flow!
Love
